CHAMBER MUSIC
Zachary is an avid chamber musician, performing regularly with the 805 and Santa Barbara String Quartets. In 2017, he cofounded Ensemble 17, a collective of chamber musicians performing contemporary music throughout Vienna, Austria. In 2022, he joined Belinfante Quartet as guest violist for their residency at La Ferme de Villefavard in Limousin, France. Below is a viola solo from a recording session with Belinfante Quartet.
Zachary has extensive chamber music training. As a doctoral student, he had a chamber music fellowship for three years at the University of California Santa Barbara. He also specialized in contemporary chamber music in the Ensemble Academy Viola Master at the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague, where he played with New European Ensemble and other professional Dutch groups. Other highlights of his chamber music studies include Meadowmount Music Festival and Colorado College Summer Music Festival.
SOLO
Zachary is an ardent and engaging soloist. In 2026 he played the Telemann Concerto on baroque viola with the Los Angeles Baroque orchestra. Other solo concerto appearances include a modern Telemann Concerto performance in the Netherlands, in addition to playing two concerts of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with the Akademisches Symphonie Orchester in Vienna. He is also a passionate recitalist. His graduate recitals at the Royal Conservatoire and University of California featured new music and extreme repertoire, including two viola transcriptions of Paganini caprices, as well as his own edition of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, arranged for string quartet and solo viola.
